The unique and most important feature of this race motor is its huge, 2-1/8" diameter valves. In September, 1915, Carl Goudy shattered all existing records for a 300-mile race. Riding a Big-Valve "X", Goudy averaged 85.8 mph at the Maywood board track in Chicago; his nearest competitor was 4 laps behind him at the finish. |
